WELCOME TO
NURTURING YOUNG DANCERS
Our Dance Philosophy
Our aim is for your child’s dance experience to be an enjoyable and memorable one.
One where they can be inspired, creative, and realise their full potential. We know every child’s dance journey is going to be different, but the high quality dance education you will receive at Newcastle Ballet Theatre, will help to reinforce the important qualities that make young people successful whether they continue with dance as a career or choose a different path. Giving your child the gift of dance classes will instill a lasting love and appreciation for all the performing arts.
OUR STORY
Who We Are
After professional ballet careers that spanned over a decade, Principals Kristy Tancred and Rider D Vierling founded Newcastle Ballet Theatre in 2012. Over the past 12 years, many of our NBT students have entered prestigious schools and professional companies both in Australia and overseas.
Newcastle Ballet Theatre offers expert tuition from a highly qualified staff in a wide range of classes for all ages - from Teeny/Tiny Dancers and beginners to Pre-Professionals and Adults. With a strong emphasis on Classical Ballet as a foundation of training, NBT was the first school in NSW to introduce the Ballet Conservatoire (BC) syllabus, based on the Russian Vaganova method.
TRANSITION TO OPEN BALLET FORMAT
New Teaching Approach
Beginning in 2024, we are very excited to progress away from a traditional ballet syllabus and align ourselves with the larger ballet schools all over the world, transitioning to exclusively open-format ballet classes. We are confident that this change will provide a broader ballet and movement vocabulary in the younger levels, preparing our dancers to be fast-thinking as they progress in their technique. This change will allow our teachers to utilise the best aspects of the various ballet syllabi that we have been exposed to over our many years of dancing and teaching - in turn allowing us to provide an excellent technical foundation, and tailor our classes to better suit the needs and aspirations of our individual students.
PERSONALISED EVALUATION
New Assessment Approach
Aligning with the transition to Open Ballet Classes, Internal Assessments replace traditional Syllabus Examinations. This means that ALL of our dancers are offered the opportunity to receive personalised reports from our faculty and from the perspective of a qualified professional teacher/assessor invited to join our assessment panel. These assessments will be inclusive, rather than selective, allowing each student to demonstrate their growth as a dancer during the year.
ADAPTING FOR INDIVIDUAL GROWTH
Embracing Change for Better Ballet Training
We will continue and are committed to upholding the highest quality of dance training as we adjust our approach to better align with the evolving landscape of Ballet Instruction. This flexibility will empower our teaching staff to nurture each students’ unique talents and potential.
We are really excited about the possibilities that this new era will bring, and we look forward to continuing to inspire the next generation of dancers.
